This was a student piece? It's a pretty mature work for a younger person. The best science fiction or fantasy (hell, any fiction in general) is about people. You've kept the focus on the human situation here, and that's what makes it real. It feels "true" in a way that many attempts at scifi don't, because they lose the human focus. This is a story of sisters, love, desire, and loss, and those are universals.

Author's Response: This was a student piece, written when I was around 21 (can't remember exactly, that was a while back). Very glad you enjoyed it.
