Single chapter by Cassandra

Dark Future

A new day, a child awakes
Treasuring dreams and hopes for the future
Through her struggle to survive
With the deceiving face of death looming over the horizon.

Matured too early, she goes outside for food,
Never did she see it coming,
Yet in a flash of painfully bright light
The evil breath of the black demon blows out her candle.

And the shattered glass around the small frame
Reflects upon a future never to be
Burned into the purest of blood, the empty gaze
Tells a thousand truths.

One single question
Whispered through the dying lips of innocence
Wanting to understand
Before they close eternally.

Across the street a mother screams
And runs toward her child
Picking up the lifeless light
She prays to the heavens above.

But her cries fall upon deaf ears,
Silenced by the pangs of death
And the foreboding whistle
Of the devilish birds that haunt the skies.

Continuing their dark journey,
Bearing but one certainty…
Where they meet their destiny,
Another child’s future ends.
